15 Days Classic Kenya Safari Day By Day Itinerary


Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

You’ll be collected from your Nairobi Residence or Airport at 0600hrs and leave for Samburu National Park. The scenic drive is via the Kenya highlands with views of tea, coffee and subsistence farmlands. Yo will arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game viewing drive.

Samburu National Reserve is one of East Africa’s popular destinations located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River. The area is gently low lying due to lava flow that resulted from volcanic activities. The climate here is hot and semi-arid. Acacia trees are dominant in the region while animals such as zebra, buffalo, lions, leopards, hyena, giraffe and others are in large numbers.

The Reserve is famous for rare species animals such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and the Besia Oryx. Samburu National Reserve is also home of close to 900 Elephants, 450 bird species, large predators such as Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs. The famous Kamunyak lioness that adapted a baby Oryx is a resident of the reserve. Due to aridity conditions in the region, animals find water from oases within the park. Several lodges and camps in the reserve make it distinctive.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

Day 2 will be dedicated to a full day game drive in the Samburu Game Reserve where you will search for the big five and view the vast unspoiled scenery. Expect sightings of dik-diks, gerenuks, East African lions, Tanzanian cheetahs, Cape buffalos and over 350 bird species.

A cultural visit to the pastoralist Samburu people can be arranged at an extra cost.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

A cup of coffee or tea is served at 0645rs in the morning, after which the guide picks you up for a drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. You will arrive just in time for an early lunch there after embark for an afternoon game drive.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 364sq km wildlife conservancy situated between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdares. The Conservancy has over 10000 large mammals and it is the only park where the big 5 and chimpanzees can be seen. It is also where the fastest growing population of rhino in Africa can be found. There are southern white rhino, about 80 endangered black rhino and in a special sanctuary there are two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhino.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Aberdare National Park

After your early morning breakfast your driver/guide will pick you up and proceed to the Aberdare National park. You will arrive in time for lunch and later go for an afternoon game drive. Aberdare National Park has mountain ranges, which rise up to 4,300m high with rivers descending on scarps forming beautiful waterfalls. At its lowland, rainforest, moorland and bamboo forests are thick due to the high amount of rainfall experienced in the region.

The Solio sanctuary’s rare black and white rhinos, plenty bird species and overnight animal seeing will make trip memorable. You may see from your lodge’s deck Elephants, Rhinos, Leopard, Bushbucks, Bongos and Forest Hogs, drinking water from the near-by waterhole. More than 250 species of birds are evident in the park as well. Apart from enjoying walking through picnics, visitors also love seeing rivers, animals and birds.

Day 5: Aberdare National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast we will depart for Lake Nakuru National Park at 0700hrs arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru National Park is a standpoint and a harbor for watching more than 400 species of birds in rift valley. As you visit the lake, game animals are in large numbers. Hippos, buffalos and many species of birds are unstoppable. Flamingos are prominently notable just like in Lake Naivasha.

Nakuru National Park is home to few remaining Rhinos in Kenya. Two Rhino species thrive in this park; the square-lipped or White Rhino preferring to graze in the short grass of the plains, and it’s more nervous browsing cousin, the Black Rhino, that tends to keep to the cover of thicker bush. The Park also offers great sightseeing of larger predators like the lions and Leopards.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve

Depart after breakfast and drive further along the floor of the Rift Valley to Masai Mara Game Reserve arriving at the Lodge/ camp in time for lunch. Check in at the lodge have lunch relax a bit. Afternoon game drive that introduces to this vast game filled reserve.

Masai Mara National Reserve is one of Kenya’s best and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary popularly known for The Big Five animals (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhinos and Buffalo). The famous wildebeest migration also takes place at the Mara and is among the 7th wonder of the world. The park has the largest concentration of African lions, including the black-maned lion. Bird life is in plenty as wildlife at the Mara, which boasts over 400 different bird species.

Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve

Full day spent exploring the park in search of the big 5. Optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 450 per person.

Day 8: Masai Mara National Reserve – Lake Naivasha

Early morning breakfast game en-route. Leave Masai Mara for Lake Naivasha arriving in time for lunch followed by an afternoon visit the Hell’s gate national park (Bicycle ride and hike). The Lake is a freshwater lake with a dense population of animals such as hippos and several species of birds. Travelers enjoy riding on waters with the help of boat operators at a favorable fee. Near Lake Naivasha is the The Hell’s Gate National Park.

Named for the intense geothermal activity within its boundaries, the Hell’s Gate National Park is a remarkable quarter of the Great Rift Valley. Spectacular scenery including the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam make it one of the most atmospheric Parks in Africa.

Hell’s Gate is an ideal venue for a nature walk where, in addition to the bio-diversity that includes raptors, visitors can enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing. The park inhabits the African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and baboons in common. The park is also home to klipspringer antelope and Chandler’s mountain reedbuck. Hell’s Gate National Park is also rich in prolific birdlife – there are over 100 species of birds in the park, including vultures, Verreaux’s Eagles, augur buzzard and swifts.

Day 9: Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park

Morning boat safari to explore Lake Naivasha while you view hippos, exotic birds and small game. We shall also enjoy a guided walking safari at the Crescent Island. Later proceed to the Amboseli National Park arriving in time for an evening game drive.

Located only 250km from Nairoi, Amboseli National Park is one of the largest parks in Kenya. This park is the most popular after Masai Mara Game Reserve, it’s the best place to view elephant herds up close. Located the foots of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park borders Tanzania.

It shelters many wild animals with elephants forming a significant number of the animals. There are more than 75 mammals in the park. Zebras and wildebeests can be seen from a distance grazing on the natural grassland. The park also provides shelter to more than 400 species of birds.

Day 10: Amboseli National Park

You will wake up early morning for a sunrise game drive to try and catch the carnivores getting their first meal of the day.

Breakfast will be served at 8:00 am after which you will relax until lunch.

An afternoon game drive will ensue shortly after where you will take in unrivaled scenery and wildlife under the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro until sunset.

Day 11: Amboseli National Park – Tsavo West National Park

You will have early morning game drive return to your lodge for breakfast, after breakfast leave Amboseli for Tsavo West National Park arriving in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive.

Tsavo West National Park is located in the Coast Province of Kenya. The park covers an area of 9,065 square kilometres. Tsavo West is a more popular destination because of its magnificent scenery, Mzima Springs, varied wildlife and rhino reserve. Many people visiting the park love the wildlife safaris as they closely view animals while moving through the park. This is where tourists are able to observe the red-skinned elephants and stunning species of birds.

In the park, visitors are able to observe Chyulu Hills a distance away from the park. It is tremendous to see lions sleeping under shades while gorillas and cheetah confidently stroll on roads in front of safari vehicles. You definitely need to arm yourself with a camera to take pictures in the beautiful landscape.

Day 12: Tsavo West National Park – Tsavo East National Park

We shall be up before the sunrise for a game drive before breakfast. The splendor of an African sunrise that engulfs the savanna shall be experienced as we traverse the vast park in search of the early grazers and hunters.

Breakfast will be followed by a checkout and drive to Tsavo west national park. Visit the Rhino sanctuary during this en route scenic game viewing. Arrive at lodge / luxury camp for check-in and lunch. Afternoon game drive will later on follow and will include a visit to shetani lava flow point which provides excellent distance view of mt. Kilimanjaro with its snow capped peaks.

Day 13: Tsavo East National Park – Mombasa

On this day you will have an early morning breakfast then drive to Mombasa through the Taru Desert and arid scorched wilderness. As you approach Mombasa the scenery becomes progressively more tropical. The heat and humidity increases, and the landscape changes to coconut palms, papaya and other coastal vegetation.

You will arrive in Mombasa late in the afternoon and proceed to your hotel for a relaxed evening.

Day 14: Mombasa

You will have ample time to relax after long game drives you experienced earlier in your trip. For a whole full day, you will relax at the beach sipping refreshing cocktail taking in the tropical beauty of the coastline. You will explore the beach, relax, go sailing, jet skiing or snorkeling.

Day 15: Mombasa  – Nairobi(Jomo Kenyatta International Airport)

Today marks the end of your 15 Days Classic Kenya Safari. After breakfast, you will leave the resort and be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Nairobi where you will catch your International flight back home. End of safari.
