Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is also found in the rift valley to the north of Mount Kenya. The area is gently low lying due to lava flow that resulted from volcanic activities. The climate here is hot and semi-arid. Acacia trees are dominant in the region while animals such as zebra, buffalo, lions, leopards, hyena, giraffe and others are in large numbers.

Due to aridity conditions in the region, animals find water from oases within the park. Several lodges and camps in the reserve make it distinctive.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Started in 1988, Ol Pejeta originally began as a cattle ranch but herds of migrating elephant regularly destroyed the fenced enclosures. This made intensive cattle farming impracticable. To maximize the bio-diversity of the land making Ol Pejeta an integrated wildlife and livestock area. Cattle still plays a role in Ol Pejeta today but as a managed livestock within the conservancy.

The Solio sanctuary’s rare black and white rhinos, plenty bird species and overnight animal seeing will make trip memorable. Watch Elephants, Rhinos, Leopard, Bushbucks, Bongos and Forest Hogs, drinking water from the near-by waterhole from your lodge’s deck.

The Conservancy has over 10000 large mammals and it is the only park with the big five and chimpanzees. There are about 80 rare Black Rhinos, Southern White Rhino and 3 of the world’s last remaining Northern White Rhinos.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru is a standpoint and a harbor for watching more than 400 species of birds in rift valley. As you visit the lake, game animals are in large numbers. Hippos, buffalos and many species of birds are unstoppable. Flamingos are prominently notable just like in Lake Naivasha.

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to few remaining Rhinos in Kenya. Two Rhino species thrive in this park; the square-lipped or White Rhino preferring to graze in the short grass of the plains, and it’s more nervous browsing cousin, the Black Rhino, that tends to keep to the cover of thicker bush.

Lake Nakuru also offers great sightseeing of larger predators like the lions and Leopards.

Aberdares National Park

Aberdares National Park is located in central province of Kenya cutting across two counties: Nyeri and Nyandarua. It is approximately 100km from Nairobi city. The park has mountain ranges, which rise up to 4,300m high with rivers descending on scarps forming beautiful waterfalls. At its lowland, rainforest, moorland and bamboo forests are thick due to the high amount of rainfall experienced in the region.

The Solio sanctuary’s rare black and white rhinos, plenty bird species and overnight animal seeing will make trip memorable. You may see from your lodge’s deck Elephants, Rhinos, Leopard, Bushbucks, Bongos and Forest Hogs, drinking water from the near-by waterhole. More than 250 species of birds are evident in the park as well. Apart from enjoying walking through picnics, visitors also love seeing rivers, animals and birds.

Lake Bogoria

Lake Bogoria is a shallow saltwater lake to the southern part of rift valley. Interesting features in this sanctuary include geysers which jet from the lake and rise 5 meters above the surface of water. The lake is surrounded by a game reserve that shelters wild animals such as antelopes, monkeys and birds.

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake with a dense population of animals such as hippos and several species of birds. Travelers enjoy riding on waters with the help of boat operators at a favorable fee. Near the lake is Crescent Island Sanctuary where you can watch Hippos, grazing impala, zebra, and giraffe.

Bicycle over to Hell’s Gate National Park to get close-up views of impala, buffalo, and eland inhabiting this dramatic landscape that features hot springs and geysers.

Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara is one of Kenya’s most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gently rolling grassland ensures animals are always on sight. Located within the Great Rift Valley in the southern part of Kenya, the park is popularly known for The Big Five (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhinos and Buffalo).

The park has the largest concentration of African lions, including the black-maned lion. Bird life is in plenty as wildlife at the Mara, which boasts over 400 different bird species. The famous wildebeest migration also takes place at the Mara and is among the 7th wonder of the world.
